Fresh new sounds at Umzumbe

 

GUESTS at The Rock Music Bistro in Umzumbe will welcome a brand new talent to the South Coast this Sunday, May 17, from 1.30pm,

Malibongwe Zulu is better known as Mali and he will offer local music lovers a great mix of music ranging from Indie and pop to stripped-down house..

“Some people call it charismatic, charming music,” he quipped.

Mali has yet to give up his day job, so juggles two careers. Based in Pietermaritzburg, he is an IT networking intern at Umgeni Water, so his music has to wait for after working hours and weekends. He has had regular gigs performing at weddings and various music venues for the last six years and was a member of the KZN Youth Choir in 2010.

“This has contributed to my understanding of music and how important a repertoire and professional training are,” he said.

Mali finished in the top 31 in last year’s Idols show and gained valuable insight into what it takes to be a great musician.

He is accompanied by a great guitarist, Brian Chakanyuka, who is also his best friend. They were both members of a band called ‘Turning Into Gold’. They are planing to release an EP and then an album and to travel around South Africa and other countries performing together.

Legendary local band, ‘Jacobs Saw’ will be at The Rock this Saturday, May 16, from about 5pm, This band has been described as a highlight of the Africa Bike Week entertainment programme so if you missed it there book your spot and find out what all the fuss was about.
