German Bazaar provides plenty for Christmas

Bakers Helga Kuhn, Veroni Wichmann and Annette van Aardt are part of the team of bakers who churn out huge quantities of traditional German biscuits for the Bethanien Lutheran Church Christmas Bazaar every year. Sample them at this year's bazaar at the church hall on Saturday December 2, from 8am.

THE festive season on the South Coast just wouldn’t be the same without our popular traditional German Christmas Bazaar, hosted by the Bethanien Lutheran Church in Izotsha.

It has been held every year for as long as most people can remember and it is always popular, festive and well-supported. This year it takes place at the church hall on Saturday December 2, from 8am.

One of the most popular regulars at the bazaar are the festively decorated tins of crisp, spicy biscuits made with love and care by talented bakers in the congregation. The tins of traditional Christmas biscuits make great gifts – if you can keep them long enough to wrap them and hand them over on Christmas morning. They are absolutely delicious and very hard to resist.

As well as the biscuits, the wide assortment of crafts and other Christmas goodies on sale make the annual bazaar the perfect place to do your Christmas shopping.

Look out for stalls selling woodwork, pottery, jewellery, needlework, leather goods and plants. There usually are lovely Advent wreaths on sale, too, if you would like to add a beautiful, timeless festive season tradition to your Christmas celebrations.

Always a popular feature of the bazaar, the Kafeestube is a great place to meet friends over a cup of good coffee and to sample a selection of luscious traditional German cakes. You can also sample an array of German treats like kartoffelpuffer and syrupskuchen, delicious lunches and German specialities like mettwurst.
