Ingeli Fair countdown begins
THE much-loved ‘Silver Creek Mountain Band’ will add a musical note to the traditional country atmosphere at this year’s Ingeli Agri Show at Harding Country Club on Saturday and Sunday, August 9 and 10.
The band, just one of a number of great entertainments on the programme of country-style happenings, will offer its special brand of foot-stomping music to visitors to the show at the marquee on the Saturday at noon.
The band members point out that in today’s age of “plastic” music where elements of most bands are synthetic, they are unique in that they play music that is 100 percent live.
And this is what the band has been doing for 30 years. Formed in East London in the early 70’s, Silver Creek has entertained thousands of people in pubs and clubs, at parties, weddings, rallies, theatres and at self-run venues. Its track record is impressive.
Over the years band members have changed, with a succession of excellent musicians all playing valuable parts in keeping Silver Creek’s music alive. Currently the band draws its line-up from a half-dozen professional musicians, the availability, circumstance and venue dictating its choice of line-up for each occasion.
The music is performed acoustically, obviously amplified, and is a lively mix of traditional and contemporary folk, blues, bluegrass and original numbers.
The show programme starts on Saturday at 8am and runs until 4pm. Entrance is R20 for adults and R10 for children. As well as the Silver Creek Mountain Band performance there will be clowns, a chainsaw competition sponsored by Stihl, the Bell Challenge sponsored by Bell, clay pigeon shooting, the grand Westbury Moo Poo Competition, a chipping competition and a cattle auction.
That evening, Lee Vaughn will sing from 6pm until late. Entrance fee for his show is R100 for adults and R50 for anyone under 18 years. For tickets contact Sam at 076 1334506.
The Sunday programme, also from 8am to 4pm, features the clowns, a classic car display, the Motorbike Anthem, Zulu dancers, a Scottish pipe band, a dance competition and the Miss Ingeli 2014 competition, sponsored by FNB.
