Very last time to rock at the Rock

A BUMPER Woodstock weekend will be your last chance to rock at ‘the Rock’.

Sadly, after years of offering quality musical happenings and providing a great platform for local talent, Umzumbe’s quaint and quirky Rock Bottom Music Bistro is closing its doors. However, it is not going quietly. Its final happening will be a two-day celebration to mark the 45th anniversary of one of the most famous music festivals ever held.

Woodstock was not just a celebration of peace, love and music. To a whole generation it became one of the defining moments of an era. The Rock Bottom Woodstock commemoration will harness the uniquely South Coast musical cultural expression to make it all happen.

So dress up like a hippie from the ’60s and join the crowds at the Rock this Saturday and Sunday for the ‘Umzumbe Stock Festival’. The Saturday entertainment kicks off at 2pm and boasts an amazing array of musos who have become part of the Rock Bottom family. Entry is R150. Bring your own alcohol and snacks. Boerewors rolls, burgers, cold drinks, mixers and ice will be available.

The Saturday line-up includes regular Rock performer Oscar Swanlund, drummer Richie Howes and percussionist and harmonica player Justin Spann from ‘Cinder Gray’, classically trained violinist Anthony Cawthorn-Blazeby, four-piece rock band ‘The Sound Dogs’, ‘Jamie and Storme Blues Band’ and tribute band Braxton Hix.

David Marks from 3rd Ear Music has had a musical career spanning over six decades and has been part of the Rock Bottom musical experience since its infancy. He was part of the sound crew at Woodstock and, as a key Rock Bottom player, will make sure that the Rock goes out in true rock ‘n roll style.

He will be part of both the Saturday and Sunday programme and will host the final Sunday ‘Pull In, Plug in and Play’ session.

David will be joined by many local musicians, friends, music lovers and Rock Bottom patrons, for what is going to be a truly memorable day in the journals of live music on the South Coast.

Entry for Sunday is R60. Remember to dress up in your favourite ’60s attire and bring your own alcohol.
