Learn to cope with dementia

EVERYONE is invited to a workshop on dementia to be held at the Mbango Valley Service Centre lounge on Thursday, September 26 from 9am to noon. The workshop costs R20, which includes cover course notes and tea and a scone. The programme will covers topics such as what dementia is, how it affects the brain and challenging behaviour and how to cope with it. This will include communicating with a person with dementia and meaningful activities for a person suffering from the condition. Speaker Sheila Douthwaite is an occupational therapist at Mbango Valley Association and qualified as an occupational therapist in Britain. She has been working in the care centre for 17 years and started the Alzheimer’s Caregivers’ Group in 1998. The group meets at Mbango on the last Thursday of every month at 10am.
