‘Old England’ on the Tuesday Rostrum menu
Tuesday Rostrum members and their guests will hear all about King George V and Queen Mary of England who reigned from 1910 to 1936 at the May lunch meeting.
The guest speaker will be historian and actress Gillian Smith, who combines her interests in historical research and acting by giving talks on people in history. The lunch takes place at Mbango Valley on Tuesday, May 8, at noon.
Gillian, who has qualifications in English and history will present a talk on ‘King George V and Queen Mary; behind closed doors’, who appeared to be a very staid and proper couple; but Gillian will explain to Rostrum members how murder, homosexuality, child abuse and alcoholism lay close to the throne.
The Capetonian’s talk will be historically correct but she will bring all her skills as an actress to entertain the ‘thinking women’s club’ with what really went on behind those closed doors.
Guests, including men, are more than welcome to attend the meeting. To book contact Kitty Steenmans at 083 2543886 or medenise@telkomsa.net.
