Popular rocker Piet Botha back in town
PORT Shepstone Country Club, which is fast earning a reputation as a lively new music venue, will host a performance by iconic pioneer of Afrikaans rock, Piet Botha, and the Akkedis Band (aka The Lyzard Kyngs), on Wednesday evening, September 3.
This will be a one-off gig for the band as it heads to Mozambique to take part in the FORR Festival there.
Botha’s musical career started in Cape Town some 30 years ago, but it was with the hard rock band, ‘Jack Hammer’ that he garnered public acclaim. In 2002 the friendship he had with the Akkedis Band’s Dennis brothers, Arthur and Rudolph and AJ Graham turned into a solidly professional relationship.
At one time, Piet Botha was a regular South Coast visitor, so he is looking forward to renewing old acquaintances. With their music crossing both English and Afrikaans and spanning rock, blues, country and reggae, there will be something for everyone.
