Reggae, retro and rock in Umzumbe

WITH an Umkomaas reggae outfit kicking off the weekend on Friday night and two big bands filling the Saturday and Sunday slots there will be plenty to keep music lovers happy at The Rock Music Bistro this weekend.

The reggae band, ‘Word Sound ‘n Power’ has graced the stage at the annual uShaka Marine World Bob Marley Festival for the last seven years. The band’s Umzumbe performance is expected to be sensational, with support from local DJ Damen Teales, who recently moved here from Johannesburg.

The Rock will rock to the Indie soft rock sounds of visiting Gauteng band, ‘Bat Country’, on Saturday, December 13 at 8pm.

‘Dave Andrews and Crew’, plus whoever pitches up to play, will entertain the Rock’s regulars and other guests on Sunday afternoon from 2pm. Dave, a local guitar repair whiz, plays with his brother, Kevin Andrews from East London, local Djembe master Ken Baker, veteran Durban muso Tomislav Svorinic and former Durbanite now stationed in the United Kingdom, Steve Minch.
