Singer starts 2015 on a high note

GOLDEN-voiced Chanene Streicher, who is visiting the South Coast, will kick off the 2015 Margate Retirement Village entertainment programme with a performance at Ronnie Baker Hall on January 14 at 2.30pm.

Entrance is R10 per person. Chanene will treat her audience to a one-hour programme of music and entertainment. Her extensive repertoire includes everyone’s favourite olden goldies so come along and enjoy a relaxing afternoon with her.

Chanene is the first of a number of classy acts that the village’s residents’ activities committee members are lining up for the new year. Most of the shows take place at the village’s sophisticated and attractive mini-theatre, Azalea Hall.

Regular Azalea Hall visitors include our province’s much-loved KZN Philharmonic Orchestra, the lively jazz group Platform Jazz, The Durban Men’s Choir and the Irish group, Blarney Brothers.

The Azalea stage is also regularly graced by renowned entertainers like Irish charmer Dave Monks, Grant Bell and John Didlick, collectively known as the Gee Jays, veteran troopers Colin Penn and his Pennants and, adding a local flavour, Mari Purdon and her band of talented local entertainers.

Some of last year’s highlights included performances by two visiting choirs from Zimbabwe, the Phoenix and Harare Male Voice Choirs, the classy duo Craig Urbani and Andy Swan, heart throb Louis John and talented Jonathan Roxmouth, another fairly regular visitor.

Look out for this year’s Azalea Hall shows and do try and support as many as you can. They are open to the public and, thanks to the efforts of the residents’ entertainment committee, offer an unfailingly high standard of entertainment. What is more, tickets are sold at a fraction of the cost of tickets for Durban shows, making the Azalea Hall offerings excellent value for money.
