Southbroom remembers yesterday

REMEMBER yesteryear at a special celebration to mark the 120th anniversary of the wrecking of the Fascadale on the large outcrop of rocks directly in front of Grannies Pool in Southbroom..

Join residents for sundowners on the lawns between Dassie Rocks and The Admiralty, at The Outlook, overlooking the site of the wreck, on Saturday, February 7, at 6pm. Author, columnist and former broadcaster, David Holt-Biddle will give an account of the tragedy and will pay tribute to the bravery and courage of the crew of a passing ship that came to the aid of the stricken vessel.

The Fascadale, a four-masted iron hull barque, carrying a cargo of sugar and a crew of 28, was en route from Java to Lisbon when it was wrecked. Come and listen to its dramatic tale at this ‘rain, hail or shine’ event. Bring chairs, drinks, snacks and be part of this informative, social, community get-together.
