Walking for autism

WALKERS taking part in the Big Autism Thing this year will start in Port Shepstone on Sunday, March 1 at 8am.

Sheryl Mulder, the principal of Cornerstone Learning Centre, said they are delighted that this year the walkers will be starting in their home town, Port Shepstone.

“We intend to be there at the start to welcome these amazing people, and walk along with them on the first leg of their journey,” she said. She urged the community to join the walkers this Saturday

The Big Autism Thing was a most successful event which was held for the first time in March-April 2012.

During this time eight people, including a young woman with autism, completed a mammoth journey, on foot, from Durban to Cape Town.

As April is International Autism Awareness Month, Cornerstone Learning Centre, a newly opened school for children with autism and significant developmental delays, would like to join people around the world by showing support, understanding and acceptance of all persons who have autism.

Ms Mulder said The Big Autism Thing is a major event, and they want to give the participants as much support as possible.
