The May Tuesday Rostrum meeting is not to be missed

EXPECT to be deeply moved by the talk at the May Tuesday Rostrum meeting when ‘Gift of the Givers’ volunteer Dr Rosanne Symons comes to lunch.

Having pursued her core passion for working within the arena of humanitarianism by studying emergency medicine, Rosanne has made herself available to organisations like air mercy services and ‘Gift of the Givers’. She has gone on missions with them to disaster and war-torn areas like Syria and Brazzaville in the Congo. This is in spite of the fact that she is married to Gavin Binder and they have five children, including a set of triplets.

Born and raised in Johannesburg, Rosanne attended St Andrew School for girls in Senderwood. She then studied medicine at the University of Cape Town and did her internship in George.

After a year working in various hospitals in the United Kingdom to pay off her student loan, she moved to Durban to work at McCord Hospital for three years. This included a number of rural hospital rotations. During these years she gained experience in all the different fields of medicine but she has also completed two postgraduate diplomas, in anaesthetics and mental health.

More recently she has worked in the private sector, as a trauma doctor in various casualty departments in Durban or assisting specialist surgeons in their operating theatres. A couple of Tuesday Rostrum committee members have heard her talk and were inspired by her passion and courage. As a speaker she is highly recommended by members of various women’s luncheon clubs who have been privileged to hear her talk.
