The Rock hosts a mixed bag

THERE will be a happy mix of music styles and something for everyone at this week’s ‘Pull in, Plug in and Play’ session at The Rock Music Bistro this Sunday afternoon, March 15.

Oscar Swanlund will host the session and will be jamming with the blues and rock band, ‘Jacob’s Saw’. Founder member Jamey Bailey hails from Gauteng where he played and tutored conventional guitars until a motorcycle accident ended that creative endeavour. However, showing true grit, he tackled and mastered the nuances of performing on a lap steel (dobro) guitar which is a match made in heaven for his gravelly, powerful voice.

A formidable duo resulted when he was joined by his son, Kaine Storme, (whom he tutored from a young age), on lead and rhythm guitar. This father and son duo has recently been supplemented by the talented Brian de Kock on drums and Oscar Swanland on bass plus acoustic guitar and harmonica.

Brian also hails from Gauteng where he played in popular bands, ‘Buttercup’ and ‘Franklin’ plus most recently, the heavy rock band, ‘Braxton Hix’. Oscar is a well known, much admired local entertainer who rounds off this musical experience.

JJ from Margate will be there to jam a whole mix of covers, too. Music starts at around 1pm. Bring your own alcohol for all The Rock gigs this weekend.

As well as its Sunday mixed bag of sounds, The Rock will host a performance by Gary Nixon from the duo, ‘The Kickstands’, on the Saturday night, from around 7pm. Contact Shirley at 072 1415621 for bookings.
