The Rock Music Bistro welcomes newcomer

THE Standard Bank Ovations Award winner at Grahamstown’s 2013 and 2014 National Arts Festival, Cape Town singer, songwriter and guitarist Julian Redpath is regarded by many as one of South Africa’s brightest young talents.

He will make his debut at The Rock Music Bistro in Umzumbe this Sunday, June 7 from 1.30pm. Strongly influenced by the lineage of finger- style guitar playing, from early Bob Dylan through to Nick Drake, Julian weaves a spell with his hands and voice. He has released his first album, ‘Maiden Light’.

Filling The Rock Saturday evening slot on June 6, from 7pm, will be ‘Kickstands’, an acoustic duo that has earned plenty of applause after its previous Rock performances. With the drive and aspiration to write soulful, melodic, foot tapping acoustic tunes to get you to that bonfire-on-the-beach mentality, the Durban duo is all about good music and good people. The two musicians don’t only play their own songs, but are known for putting a unique and often improvised spin on both popular and more obscure songs.

Looking further ahead, The Rock will host the famous Hairy Legged Lentil Eaters on Saturday June 13 and the truly amazing, very beautiful talented Natalie Chapman and Paul Roux on Sunday, June 14.
