Tuesday Rostrum welcomes rape survivor Jes

MEMBERS of Tuesday Rostrum will pay only R75 if they bring a guest to the next meeting on November 11 at 12.15pm.  Jes Foord will be  the speaker.

Jes (21) became a heroine to many South Africans by establishing the Jes Foord Foundation following her traumatic gang-rape by four men. The foundation has established counselling rooms in Hillcrest, Berea, and opened its doors to their Multi-Purpose Counselling Centre in Mariannhill this year.

Her latest drive is the ‘Handbag project’ and Jes appeals to the public to support this initiative by donating handbags, backpacks or children’s bags that are in good condition. The bags are then filled with a variety of donated new items such as toothpaste, toothbrushes, soap, facecloths, deodorant, shampoo, body lotions, panties (S, M or L), combs, tissues, hair clips or bands, chocolates, soft toys, and notes of comfort.

For bookings, contact Denise Millar at 039 3172600, sms to 083 2719163 or email medenise@telkomsa.net.

Cancellations must be done before 12pm on the Thursday prior to the meeting otherwise the member or guest will be liable for costs. Bar facilities are available at affordable prices.

The Christmas Brunch will be held at the Mondazur San Lameer Country Club on December 2 and entertainment will be provided by the ‘Country Girls’. The member incentive is to bring a guest and pay only R125, otherwise the normal cost is R175 per member and R200 per guest.
