Walk to buy a Bible

TAKE a pleasant walk with your family or friends and help give someone the gift of a Bible.

The NG Church in Church Street, Port Shepstone (next to Suid-Natal High) is hosting a sponsored fun walk to raise money for the Bible Society of South Africa. Walkers of all denominations are asked to support this event. It starts at the church on Monday, June 16, a public holiday, at 8.30am for 9am.

You can choose your distance and do the 2.3km course, the 3.6km course or the 5.6km. The first 150 walkers who cross the line will receive Bible Society medals. Entry is free but walkers are asked to give a donation to the Bible Society or to obtain sponsorship. Sponsor forms are available at the church office. Contact 039 6820266.

To place one Bible in a single person’s hand costs R36, but any donations, no matter how small, even R1, would be gratefully received. The Bible Society prints and distributes Bibles in many different languages, so people all over South Africa are able to read and understand them.

Once you have finished your walk you will have earned a delicious breakfast, so you can reward yourself by buying some of the goodies that will be on sale at the finish. These include pancakes, vetkoek, breyani, jaffles, puddings, tea, coffee and cold drinks.
