Walk through Mbumbazi reserve
NATURE lovers will head inland for the next Walking in Nature ramble, along an attractive route through the Mbumbazi Nature Reserve near Paddock.
The Oribi Honorary Officers will host the walk, on Sunday, October 13 at 8am. To get there, take the Harding Road to Paddock. At the Shell service station turn left, back towards the coast, and continue past the Paddock Farmers’ Club. Follow this dirt road for about 1km, then turn right and proceed to the reserve’s entrance.
Mbumbazi, a reserve managed by Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife, is not generally open to the public so the Walking in Nature ramble offers nature lovers the chance to see this unique, interesting but usually inaccessible piece of wilderness.
The spring flowers in its extensive grasslands are just coming into bloom and should be spectacular by the time the walk takes place. Ramblers are also likely to spot herds of zebra and other mammals, plenty of interesting birds and some lovely views.
Bacon and egg rolls, tea and coffee, will be on sale at the finish. A donation of R20 per walker will help fund environmental projects.
