Brazen ATM bombing shakes Gauteng filling station

Police are on the hunt for a group of armed men who bombed an ATM and robbed a garage this morning.

Heavily armed with guns and explosives, a gang of men held up staff at a petrol station in Sebokeng early this morning while carrying out a series of crimes.

Police are investigating an ATM bombing and armed robbery at Global Filling Station in Zone 10 after a group of armed men stormed the petrol station.

The blast not only damaged an Absa ATM but also caused shockwaves in the neighbourhood, waking up the nearby residents.

Following the bombing, the perpetrators forcibly entered the station’s building and emptied the cash registers, making off with an undisclosed amount of money.

Police spokesperson Captain Teboho Lephoto says the incident happened at approximately 03:00.

“No suspects have been arrested, and no fatalities were reported,” he adds.

Lephoto urges the public to assist the police in bringing those responsible to justice.

Members of the public who have information that could assist the police can contact the Sebokeng police at 016 988 1340 or 0860 010 111.
