Watch: Limpopo woman arrested for assaulting mother

Video not for sensitive viewers: While one woman is already behind bars for allegedly beating her mom, police are now looking for her sibling in connection with the same incident.

A viral video of two young women from Ga-Mashashane in Limpopo allegedly beating their mother for her grant money has led to the arrest of one of the daughters.

Provincial police commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe strongly condemned the acts depicted in the video.

Despite the incident occurring in October 2022, it’s due to the video recently going viral that one woman has been arrested, and the other is being sought by police.

Police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba says the siblings allegedly assaulted their mother in a public place and were caught on video.

“The video reached the police on Wednesday and the 49-year-old victim was approached. A case of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm was opened [against her daughters], and one of the suspects was immediately arrested. The arrest of the second suspect will happen soon,” he adds.

Hadebe says the province will not tolerate children who abuse their parents.

She adds that courts and prisons are there for corrective justice when family set-ups collapse.
