Local director lights up the small screen

There is no stopping this talented South Coaster.

MOVIE director Senzo Zindela, who hails from Izingolweni, was ecstatic when his locally produced movie ‘The Right’ was finally aired on television last Thursday.

If you missed it, it will be repeated on DStv’s Mzansi Magic, on channel 161, on August 31 at 11am.

The 29-year-old director, who owns the Sollywood Films Company, was commissioned by Mnet to produce two ‘low cost, bubble-gum movies’ last year.

With a total budget of R200 000, he wrote, directed and edited ‘The Right’ and ‘Problems Everywhere’ over a period of four months.

The movies were shot in Gamalakhe and Umtentweni and 34 actors, including 28 from the South Coast, were given roles in these, the coast’s first home-grown movies.

‘The Right’ stars well known actors and music artists, Andile Mxakaza (Sgonondo in the SABC drama, Zone 14), Roland Mqwebu (Mkhize in the SABC Zulu comedy, Emzini Wezinsizwa and famous kwaito artist, Sfiso Mtshengu of Big NUZ.

“I’m very excited. It’s not only a big achievement for me, but also for the South Coast,” said Senzo. Even more exciting, the feedback from big-name film producers and artists has been overwhelming. Senzo has just finalised ‘Problems Everywhere’ and is currently working on several movie scripts.

He will be holding a free film workshop, in partnership with Arts Forum and Video Forum (AFVF), the South Coast Chamber of Commerce and the Department of Trade and Industry in Port Shepstone on Thursday, August 29. All those interested in the film industry are invited to attend.

And all artists and musicians are invited to attend a music workshop on Friday, August 30. Venue and time are still to be confirmed.
