UGU spokesman, Sipho Khuzwayo has confirmed that due to its cash flow crisis, the municipality will not be taking part in this year’s SALGA games.
“This decision is in favour of the current organisational refocused budget priorities which are in line with the cash flow situation,” said Mr Khuzwayo.
“A meeting of all seven mayors and municipal managers was held in February where a decision was taken not to take part in the 2013 games.
“The reason for the decision was that as the games are being hosted by Sisonke District Municipality and accommodation is limited, so Ugu athletes would have had to sleep in Margate and commute every day. This would have been very exorbitant in terms of transportation costs,” he explained.
