False alarm for buoy-finding boys
The public is urged to contact the sharks board at 031 5660400 if the gear is spotted.
FOUR cousins, currently staying at their holiday home in Southbroom, thought they had found the two red buoys which were attached to the southern right whale rescued off Southbroom last week.
After two days of rough seas, the Gauteng holidaymakers Andrew Rider (13), Chris Rider (11) and Michael Rider (7) and their cousin, Patrick Beggs (12) visiting from Namibia, found the buoys washed ashore at Granny’s Pool in Southbroom.
Although the gear provided much fun for the boys they were not the sought after buoys.
KwaZulu-Natal Sharks Board’s Mike Anderson-Reade said the buoys in the picture looked like the buoys from their drumlines. “The missing buoys are soft, unlike these which are hard plastic,” he said.
