THREE men accused of robbing a woman at her home in Station Road, Scottburgh last Thursday (August 29) are expected to appear in the Scottburgh Magistrate’s Court this week. The suspects were arrested on the day of the robbery.
Police spokesman Colonel Jay Naicker said the 40-year-old victim was alone at her home when she went out to fetch the washing from the clothesline at about 4.30pm.
“As she walked back to the house, a man pushed her inside and shut the security gate. She noticed two other men already inside the house,” he said. Col Naicker said one of the men held a knife to the woman’s throat and demanded money and jewellery while the others ransacked the house. A large sum of money was taken from the woman’s handbag before the men fled.
Col Naicker added the woman activated the panic alarm and police from Scottburgh SAPS and the Umzinto K9 Unit responded. “The men who fled the scene were found in the vicinity and placed under arrest.” A stainless steel knife, believed to be the weapon used in the robbery, was seized by police.
