AN elderly woman is fighting for her life in Netcare Margate Hospital after a vicious attack at her Pollux Road, Oslo Beach home yesterday morning (Wednesday, September 4). The woman was found by a relative.
Netcare 911 paramedics and police found the 80-year-old woman unresponsive, with life-threatening injuries. She was stabilised at the scene before being taken to hospital.
“According to the relative, the old woman was found naked on her bedroom floor. She had a serious wound to the head and the house had been ransacked. At this stage it is not clear what has been stolen. How the attackers entered the house is also unclear as there were no signs of forced entry,” said police spokesman, Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid. She added that the woman was alone at home at the time of the attack.
Sector managers have been appointed in the Port Shepstone SAPS cluster to assist residents, especially senior citizens, in times of crisis. The sector managers are on 24 hour standby. Contact them immediately in case of an attack, or to report suspicious behaviour, vehicles or activity or to relay information to the police.
