EXCELLENT forensic investigation by SAPS has led to the arrest of three men in connection with an attack on an 80-year-old woman at her Pollux Road, Oslo Beach home last Wednesday.
After the attack on the helpless woman, Detective Warrant Officer Brian Henning from the Local Criminal Record Centre started investigating the scene for forensic evidence.
He was joined by Warrant Officer Shaun Pedlar, WO Thandeka Ngubane and Constable Nathaniel Zachariah.
“After many hours of methodically searching for evidence, WO Henning made the breakthrough and linked a possible suspect to the crime scene,” said police spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid.
A manhunt began for the suspect and on Monday this week a man (29) was arrested together with another (19) who is also believed to have been involved in committing the crime.
Certain items which were stolen from the house in Pollux Road were found in the house in Bhoboyi where they were arrested.
“A third suspect (22), who is also implicated in the house robbery, was arrested on Tuesday this week in Bhoboyi by the Port Shepstone police tracing team. All three suspects appeared at the Port Shepstone Magistrate’s Court yesterday (Wednesday) on charges of house robbery. Detective Warrant Officer Lami Mjweni is the investigating officer. Bail was opposed and the case was postponed for further investigation.
The woman was found naked on her bedroom floor. She had a serious wound to the head and the house had been ransacked. The woman was alone at home at the time of the attack and was found by a relative.
