Uvongo couple robbed at knifepoint

The armed intruders threatened to kill the man's girlfriend.

THE long weekend got off to a bad start for a couple who were robbed at their Uvongo home yesterday (Thursday, September 19) at around 6pm. According to police spokesman Captain Gerald Mfeka, the couple was confronted by two men armed with a knife.

“Ruaan Badenhorst (32) and his girlfriend heard a door opening in the house. Mr Badenhorst then saw two men, one of whom was holding a knife. He was pushed onto a couch and threatened by the man with the knife. The men demanded his firearm, which Mr Badenhorst claimed he didn’t have. The men then threatened to kill Mr Badenhorst’s girlfriend if he didn’t had over the firearm,” said Captain Mfeka.

The men took the girlfriend to the car where they found the firearm. The robbers fled taking two cellphones, a watch and the firearm. No arrests have been made. Margate police are investigating a case of house robbery.
