Survival is celebrated

Tribute was also paid to those who had lost the fight.

THE support shown at the get-together to honour cancer survivors last Saturday is a strong indicator of just how determined people on the South Coast are to combat the dread disease.

James Jones, provincial manager for Cansa, said that everyone who attended the event at the Port Shepstone Civic Centre deserved credit for their efforts. “The ceremony was touching, filled with poignant moments where tributes were paid to those who had lost the battle,” he said.

Candles, symbolising the fighting spirit and spark of life in every cancer sufferer were lit and placed on all the tables. Entertainment on stage included singing and dancing. Caregivers were also given special recognition.
