Body recovered from Mzimkhulu River in Port Shepstone

A motorist contacted police after spotting the body.

Security officers from Mi7 assisted the Saps Search and Rescue Unit on Wednesday morning (June 24) after reports of a body in the Mzimkulu River, near the low-water bridge in Port Shepstone.

According to MI7, on arrival the presence of a body in the river was confirmed.

Mi7 assisted Saps during the recovery operation by providing rope support to ensure the safe return of the rescue swimmer and the deceased to the riverbank.

Saps Ugu District Communications said Search and Rescue recovered the body of a man approximately forty years of age from the Mzimkhulu River.

“It is alleged that a motorist saw the body floating in the water and contacted the police. An inquest has been opened to determine the cause of death,” said police.
