Man burns to death while neighbours watch helplessly

A MAN was found burnt to death in his shack at Nzimakwe, Port Edward last Saturday. “According to reports it is believed that the man (28) was seen entering his shack at around midnight,” said police spokesman Captain Gerald Mfeka.

“Later that morning, neighbours heard someone screaming and went to investigate and saw smoke coming from the man’s room.The neighbours tried to assist but were unable to pull the man from the burning shack.”

When police and paramedics arrived they broke into the shack where they found the man, who had suffered extensive burns. He was declared dead at the scene. Port Edward police have opened an inquest docket.
