Woodgrange pioneers meet and greet
Old friends, family and associates reconnected and reminisced.
THE Woodgrange Education and Cultural Society launched its first meet and greet function at the Hibberdene Town Hall recently. Pioneers from the Stick Farm and Woodgrange area were invited to come to the party where old friends, family and associates reconnected, enjoying each other’s company as they reminisced about days gone by.
The executive committee, which is made up of Gopichand Kasipersadh (chairman), Dr Maliga Chetty (vice-chairman), Sweady Chetty (secretary) and Rajeev Ramdhani (treasurer), also expressed its gratitude to Mr Chetty for investing 22 and a half years serving the community by providing sound education at Woodgrange Primary.
In bidding farewell to the community, Mr Chetty was able to identify community stalwarts and different families who made a direct contribution to building and developing the school prior to 1994.
Garry Govender, an former pupil of Woodgrange, who is now a police officer, was full of praise for Mr Chetty. In his speech, he was emphatic that ‘I am the person I am because of this man. Mr Chetty made me who I am today’.
The function ended on a high note with a scrumptious meal and thereafter young and old alike danced the night away. The Woodgrange Education and Cultural Society thanked all those who helped make the function the success it was.
