Cupcakes help cancer charities
The tasty treats raised just under R15 000 for sick children.
THE Cupcakes of Hope which was held at the Shelly Centre last Saturday was a huge success.
September being cancer awareness month, Shelly Centre teamed up with Cupcakes of Hope, a non-profit organisation, to raise funds for children with cancer. Members of the public were urged to bake and donate cupcakes, which were then sold at R10 each at the centre.
An amount of just under R15 000 was collected from the sale of the sweet treats.
This initiative aims to raise awareness and funds for children afflicted with cancer. It is an entirely community-driven project and an amazing event that brought the whole community together for an awesome cause. “We had 902 cupcakes donated by the community and they were sold out within four hours,” said Tessa Pendock, marketing manager of Shelly Centre.
“It was a phenomenal success. The community really came together to support the event,” she said.
Funds raised will be in aid of Reach For a Dream, Cansa, Choc and The Sunflower Fund. The money will go towards medical treatment, travelling costs, school fees, clothing and the day-to-day living expenses of children living with cancer.
