Dementia workshop was well attended

Support groups are held on the last Thurday of every month.

THE dementia workshop held at Mbango Valley last Thursday was a success. The well attended workshop proved that a lot of people are affected by this disease, not just those living with it.

The talks explained what dementia is and taught people on the various parts of the brain and how dementia affects those parts. Caregivers at the workshop were trained and advised on how to handle people living with the disease.

The audience consisted mainly of people caring for relatives with dementia, who found the workshop very useful.

“On October 31 we will continue with the workshop, where we will be teaching people on how to communicate effectively with people living with dementia and providing behavioural support to maintain their well-being,” said Sheila Douthwaite, who is an occupational therapist.

There are dementia support groups that take place at Mbango Valley on the last Thursday of the month at 10am.
