NOVEMBER is Prematurity Awareness Month, a month when medical personnel will be spreading the word about the dangers of premature birth.
The Ruth Mailbag Group and Port Shepstone Regional Hospital are already preparing for Premature Awareness Month by collecting clothes and blankets for premature infants. If you can knit, crochet or sew, a contribution of a hand-made item for a little premmie would be gratefully received, although bought items would be put to good use as well. The items collected will be handed out to premature babies born at the hospital.
Send your donations to Post Bag X5706, Port Shepstone, 4240 or hand them in at the hospital. Contact Phumza Morai from the hospital at 039 6886276 or 083 3323722 for details.
The awareness month starts on November 1, building up to November 17, which has been declared World Prematurity Day. Wear purple on this day to show your support – or knit a purple baby beanie to add to the Ruth Mailbag Group premmie collection drive.
Based in Ladysmith, the Ruth Mailbag Group works with hospitals around the province to collect and distribute donations of hand-made and bought clothing, blankets and toys for infants from needy families. The group also assists the elderly.
