Care centre gets Lotto cash injection

Without the grants from the Lotto, there would be no care centre.

FOR the fourth time since 2005, the National Lotteries Distribution Trust Fund (NLDTF) has assisted Catalina Bay House, better known as the Hibberdene Care Centre.

The founder and programme director, Felicity Govender, said that without the grants from Lotto, there would be no care centre.

The centre was in need of a separate ward for their mentally-challenged females and the NLDTF responded with a substantial grant, which will now enable the building of a new ward to accommodate 25 residents permanently.

The NLDTF has also assisted with the purchase of a bakkie for their outreach work in the surrounding rural area, especially for water delivery and the transportation of cooked meals to patients requiring pyschiatric medicines.

The fact that the care centre has two well-maintained vehicles, one purchased with funds from NLDTF in 2008, with the new bakkie purchased this month, bears testimony to the fact that the NLDTF is in fact here to help.

Catalina Bay House is a reality because the NLDTF funded the building, and the new ward will also bear testimony to the fact that the NLDTF cares. Over the last seven years the  care centre has made huge progress, and together with the Department of Health, will now be able to accommodate 25 more residents once the pyschiatric ward has been completed.

The board members and the present residents are grateful to the NLDTF for all the help because having freehold assets makes work easier and gives residents a better quality of life.

The public will be kept updated on the progress of the building and the date for the open day will be announced in the media soon.

“Thank you and God bless to all the faithful lotto players. Do not despair, come to 116 Catalina Drive in Hibberdene and see what a portion of the proceeds from your ticket has done to better the lives of the vulnerable,” said Mrs Govender.

“Last, but not least, thank you to every person in the NLDTF offices for efficiently processing the Hibberdene Care Centre’s application.”
