Fun, happiness and dance … on a bike

The raceway was filled with a host of children all riding for a worthy cause.

A FUND-RAISER, called ‘Kids Bike Jabula’, took place at the Dezzi Raceway last Saturday. The intention was to raise funds for a non- profit organisation called Siyakwazi in KwaNzimakwe, which strives to help develop early learning for underprivileged children.

Organiser of the event, Guy Dudley, said the event had come about as a result of a culmination of ideas and discussions, namely the successful race series in New Zealand caledl the ‘Kids Bike Jam’, the Halfway Toyota Sugar Challenge and a get-together for an afternoon braai at Dezzi Raceway.

“Based on this, I started working on a concept to raise funds involving young children having outdoor fun in a safe environment. Jabula, after all, means fun, happiness and dance. I introduced my idea to a few of my friends and the ball was set in motion,” he said.

“Ideally I wanted to raise funds for underprivileged children on the South Coast, however, a quick visit to the Siyakwazi facebook page to see the joy these children get from so little, made us realise where the proceeds would go.”

In addition to the actual event, there was The Jabula Box, for those who were not able to attend the event but wanted to contribute. The Jabula Box also proved to be a perfect platform to take to the corporates.

“The response was incredible, and a huge thank you must be expressed to the companies that made contributions into the box,” said Guy.

Hector Macleod was thanked for starting the ‘give a child a chalk board’ iniative. He generously donated 150 chalk boards which went on sale for R5 each and quickly raised a nice lump sum which was deposited into the Jabula Box.
