Supporting children with autism
The women enjoyed tea and cake while making a difference in a child's life.
CORNERSTONE Learning Centre last Saturday held its first fund-raising event to help purchase furniture and equipment needed for the opening of the school in January next year.
Norwegian Settlers’ Church kindly made its hall available for this worthy cause. The organisers were overwhelmed by the wonderful, enthusiastic response from all who shared their passion and enthusiasm for this project.
Lots of lucky draws, prizes and even an auction formed part of the proceedings. The school will be catering for children with autism and developmental disabilities.
It is envisaged that the first phase of the school will have two or three classes, and a maximum of 25 pupils. There will be no more than eight pupils in a class with one teacher and an assistant.
Initially children aged three to 10 years will be accommodated, with the intention of adding classes as the children grow older.
The public’s support for this fund-raising event will help empower pupils with special needs to reach their full potential.
