THE department of education said this week that it would send officials to investigate the incidents of bullying at Suid-Natal High.
This came after three Suid-Natal High pupils were arrested and appeared in court for bullying last week.
Muzi Mahlambi, spokesman for the department of education, said it viewed the incidents in a very serious light and was happy with the police’s involvement.
Mr Mahlambi said a team would be sent to the school to investigate and set up a tribunal according to the school’s code of conduct.
He said any form of bullying is considered a form of violence and the department would not tolerate bullying taking place inside or outside the school.
“It doesn’t matter what grade the child is in, children must be able to go freely to school to be taught, learn and play,” he said.
“A child must look forward to going to school, not think twice, before going to school,” he added.
In the aftermath, parents of the pupils who have been bullied called for the implicated pupils to be suspended until the court case is finalised.
“Although one of the incidents took place outside the school, two of the incidents happened inside the school grounds. Based on these two incidents these children should be suspended,” said a parent.
According to the parent the ‘bullies’ where leaving the pupils alone but are believed to be playing mind games with the victims.
When the school was approached for comment, no response was received.
