Truck tragedy in Margate

It took firemen more than two hours to free the trapped men.

ONE man died and another was seriously injured after a heavy goods truck carrying a load of flour overturned in Marine Drive, Margate at around 3am today. Netcare 911 paramedics arrived at the scene and found that the truck had smashed into a building and overturned. The occupants were still trapped in the mangled wreckage. Firemen battled for more than two hours to free the victims using the jaws of life, while paramedics had to clamber into the wreckage in an attempt to stabilise them.

One of the occupants, thought to be the driver, died at the scene while the second, seriously injured man was stabilised at the scene before being taken to hospital. At the time of writing, the road was still closed. An official police report is awaited.
