PORT Shepstone High successfully held its sixth ‘challenge week’ for this year’s grade 11s, a social responsibility programme aimed at helping pupils gain insight into their behaviour and how it affects people around them. Pupils learnt that life is about choice and although they may not always get to decide what happens in life, they do get to decide how to respond.
Teachers guided the pupils through a range of activities, with underlying themes including bullying and teasing, discrimination, values, social responsibility, peer pressure, self-confidence, friendship and making a difference.
‘Challenge week’ also aims to instil a positive self-image in pupils, who were shown why they should not let somebody else’s negative opinion of them become their reality.
This is the first time that Port Shepstone High has had seven pupils accepted into the KZN Youth Choir for 2013.
PSHS boys’ 1st cricket team played Umzinto and Sheppie made 158/3, winning by 44 runs, with Umzinto 114 all out. The second team played Kingsway – all out for 71 and Sheppie making 72/1, winning by 9 wickets. The U14 cricketers played Kingsway and PSHS were 126 all out. Kingsway won by 8 wickets.
The 1st team boys’ water polo beat Hillcrest 8-0, the 1st team girls beat Hillcrest 5-4. The 2nd team boys’ touch rugby beat Kingsway 3-0 and the girls also did well, beating Hillcrest 3-0 and Southcity 4-1. The seconds lost1-4 to Hillcrest, but beat Southcity 3-2 and the third team won against Kingsway 1-0, but lost 0-1 to Hillcrest.
Just over R2200 was raised through the Leo Club and handed over to Child Welfare last week.
