THE Durban Flying Squad Narcotics Task Team arrested five suspected drug dealers in Port Shepstone and Margate last weekend. During the operation, police recovered 69 bags of methcathinone (also known as ‘cat’), 404 grams of methcathinone, 341 grams of cocaine, 13 slopes of cocaine, 28 bags of cocaine powder, 31 straws of heroin, 32 pieces of rock cocaine and a revolver with six live rounds of ammunition. The total street value of the recovered drugs is more than R619 000. Cst Thabane Mofokeng from Port Shepstone K9 Unit assisted the members from Durban.
The five suspects, aged between 25 and 63 years, were arrested for the possession of drugs. Two will face additional charges of dealing in drugs and one will face an additional charge of being in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. They will appear in the Port Shepstone and Ramsgate Magistrate’s Courts today, Monday, November 25.
The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni commended the officers on the
arrests. “As the festive season approaches we will be stepping up our operations to remove drug dealers from our society. We know that throngs of visitors, especially young people, will be on holiday and will be visiting these areas
where drug dealers operate. We encourage parents to be more vigilant over their children during this period,” she said.
