A MOTORIST, Zethembe Theophilis Makaye (37) was convicted of culpable homicide in the Hibberdene Magistrate’s Court recently.
He was sentenced to a fine of R30 000 or 18 months’ imprisonment.
The court heard that Nkululeko Duncan Tshazi (29) was killed in a car crash on April 6 this year. Makaye, the driver of the second vehicle involved in the accident, was arrested and charged.
Detective Warrant Officer Avin Mahadawu from Hibberdene Police Station was called to the crash scene on the R102 where two vehicles had collided.
Police spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid urged motorists to drive cautiously and to obey the rules of the road especially during this period when traffic volumes were expected to increase as visitors headed to the coast.
“Don’t overtake when it is not safe to do so and do not drink and drive,” she said.
