THABANE Mhleko (40) has received a life sentence for the rape of a 12-year-old girl near Paddock in September 2011.
He was sentenced at Ezinqoleni Regional Court , where the court heard that he had waited for the girl, and then forced her into a pit toilet whereupon he raped her.
Detective Constable Sibongile Ngcobo of the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS) in Margate, and members of the Paddock SAPS, played key roles in having Mhleko arrested.
Meanwhile, Bheki Clearance Dayi (34) received a life sentence, handed down at the Port Shepstone Magistrate’s Court on November 20 this year, after being found guilty of raping a 14- year-old girl near Port Edward in November 2011.
Det-Cst Ngcobo was also instrumental in bringing the man to book.
Dayi had dragged the girl into bush near a river where he raped her. She later reported the rape to a teacher, as well as to the police.
Members from FCS arrested Dayi in October last year after he had been identified at a pension payout point.
