POLICE shot and killed a man who stoned the Gamalakhe SAPS community service centre during the early hours of Sunday morning.
According to reports, the man arrived at the service centre and threw a stone which shattered a window.
“At the time of the incident two officers were inside one of the buildings at the service centre,” said police spokesman Captain Gerald Mfeka.
“The officers called for back-up. While inside the building, the officers heard the man shouting and saw that he was carrying a firearm. On the arrival of other police, the man fled along Ray Nkonyeni Street. The man fired shots at the police and they returned fire, killing him,” said Captain Mfeka.
It is believed that the firearm found in his possession is linked to another crime related incident in the Margate area.
“Police are still trying to figure out why the man attacked the community service centre,” said Captain Mfeka.
The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID), together with Margate SAPS, are investigating. The man is believed to be from the Gamalakhe area.
