EXCELLENT overall results, with a pass rate of 95,45 percent, were attained by the matric class of 2013 at Port Shepstone Secondary.
A total of 231 distinctions were notched up by the 176 candidates who sat for the National Senior Certificate exams, with 61 percent achieving a bachelor pass. Top of the class was Vishiven Appalraju, who achieved distinctions in English, Afrikaans, mathematics, life orientation, accounting, life science, physical science and mathematics P3. Vishiven was placed fifth in the Ugu district. He is the son of Kanthan and Dr Mala Appalraju. His sister Pranushka was also placed in the top five in the Ugu district in 2009. She is currently a medical student at the University of KwaZulu-Natal.
“I would like to extend my gratitude to God, my parents and teachers,” said Vishiven. His recipe for success is plan ahead, work hard and maintain focus. Vishiven received a R500 voucher plus a laptop and a certificate of achievement from the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Education.
Other top candidates were Preneshen Naicker (nine As), Rahul Moodley (eight As), Zaressa Naidoo (eight As), Victor Muhire Ruhinda (eight As), Myuran Moodley (seven As), Kirthi Ramjuthan (seven As), Minenhle Cele (seven As), Keshan Rajoo (six As), Renelle Naidoo (six As), Vinay Sookdavu (six As) and Lavaanie Gounden (five As).
Parents and well-wishers are invited to the school’s annual speech and awards’ day which will be held at the school hall on Friday, January 17 at 5.30pm. The principal, staff and governing body extend their heartfelt congratulations to the pupils.
