AN impressive number of arrests were made by police during the festive period.
Police spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid, the arrests were made in the coastal and the inland policing areas.
She said five people had been arrested for murder, two for rape, 54 for assault, nine for robbery, 53 for drug related offences, 382 for liquor related offences, 134 for traffic offences, 29 for dangerous weapons, 12 for possession of fire arms and 13 for drunken driving.
“These successes were achieved because members worked long hours during special crime prevention operations, stop and search operations, road blocks, observation duties and patrols,” said Lt-Col Wiid.
Cluster commander of Port Shepstone, Major General Thembi Ndlovu worked alongside her members on the ground. Maj-Gen Ndlovu said she was pleased with the willingness and positive attitude of her officers and members.
