AN inquest docket has been opened by police after a man was found shot dead on the pavement in Aiken Street, Port Shepstone at about 11am today. Police spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Wiid said that when the police arrived at the scene, they found a .38 special revolver on the pavement next to the body. Lt-Col Wiid said the man had allegedly put the gun to his head and fired a shot.

“An eye witness told police that he noticed the man walking in an easterly direction a short distance in front of him, and that he could hear the person mumbling to himself. He also saw a firearm in his hand,” said Lt-Col Wiid.
The deceased is still to be identified.
