Marchers to hand over memorandum

The march was initially scheduled to take place on December 10 but was postponed as that date fell within the official period of mourning for the late Nelson Mandela.

RESIDENTS of Hibiscus Coast Municipality’s ward 25 will stage a march to deliver a memorandum to the ANC regional offices and to the mayor, Cynthia Mqwebu, at the Port Shepstone Civic Centre on Tuesday, January 28, starting at 10am. The purpose of this is to highlight the purported non-performance of ward councillor Sbusiso Danca and the decline in service delivery since 2011.

There has been much correspondence on these two issues, and the situation has reached the stage where HCM was obliged to appoint a PR councillor to assist the Gamalakhe community. In turn, the community felt it was left with little choice but to call for by-elections in the ward with a view to replacing the non-performing ward councillor. The march was initially scheduled to take place on December 10 but was postponed as that date fell within the official period of mourning for the late Nelson Mandela.

Marchers will set out from the Port Shepstone bus rank, proceed to Nelson Mandela Drive and on to Wooley Street before stopping at the ANC office. There, the first memorandum will be handed to ANC regional chairman Tolomane Mnyayiza. The marchers will then move on to Shepstone Street, Reynolds Street and Connor Street where a second memorandum will be handed over to the mayor in the council chambers. All community members who are in solidarity with the community of Ward 25 are welcome to be part of the peaceful march. For more information, call Vuyani Msomi at 072 4455730 or 083 4242121.
