RAMSGATE residents have discovered that their beautiful whale viewing deck is not only useful as a vantage point for watching whales.
It is also one of the best places to watch the full moon rise over the ocean. With this in mind, Ramsgate Conservancy members hosted another of their popular and well-supported full moon parties at the deck last week.
It was a perfect summer evening, the type of evening designed for spending out of doors, and a clear sky provided guests with a spectacular moonrise. Conservancy members cooked up delicious boerewors rolls for everyone and bagpipe maestro Charles Carr provided a little light music to add to the fun.
After the first phase was completed the whale deck and its parklike surrounds, on a rehabilitated dune overlooking Ramsgate beach, quickly became popular tourist attractions. Now, with the conservancy completing the next phase, an attractive environmental centre, complete with kitchenette and covered seating areas, the whale deck has become a very useful community and educational facility, too.
