PORT Shepstone Islamic School’s 2014 academic year commenced on January 13 with a staff induction meeting. The school welcomes Premchand Bhugwandin, senior physical sciences teacher, Ruwaida Desai, who has joined the Afrikaans department and Swaleha Khan-Motala who will be teaching geography in the FET phase.
The Islamic School, no stranger to success and outstanding achievements, has once again recorded a 100 percent pass, with 17 bachelor passes and five diploma passes. The school’s top achiever, Khadija Bibi Gani obtained six distinctions and an A aggregate of 89.6 percent. Ayesha Bux obtained an A aggregate of 84.3 percent and 6 As. Hamna Tiwana obtained three subject distinctions, and Zaheera Gangat and Nobuhle Ruwaiyda Khumalo attained two subject distinctions.
The school is amongst one of the four top performing schools in the South Coast region to have achieved a 100 percent pass rate. Islamic School has continued to maintain its record of a 100 percent for the past 12 years and the school is also one of only 550 distinguished schools countrywide to have obtained a 100 percent pass rate.
Last Friday, the matric class of 2013 was honoured at a glamorous awards function. The top achievers were presented with awards and each matriculant received gifts. An artistically crafted memory book was given to each matriculant, containing messages from the Hibiscus Coast mayor, Cynthia Mqwebu, the school principal, the director, teachers and the 2013 gr 11 pupils.
The 2013 gr 11s hosted this function after a year of fund-raising and meticulous planning, and indulged the matrics, their parents and teachers to a six-course dinner.
Islamic School, with its experienced staff, co-operative parents and pupils, and supportive board of governors, is set on course for an exciting year ahead.
