AFTER the December break, there was an excellent turnout for the first Sports and Specials car run of the new year.
A long procession of eye-catching cars, classic and contemporary, set off from Shelly Beach last Sunday, heading south along Marine Drive, through Margate and then towards Port Edward. At the entrance to the town, they swung inland, along the scenic Izingolweni Road to the Beaver Creek Coffee Farm and Restaurant, where the car enthusiasts enjoyed a sociable breakfast.
While the majority of the cars taking part were classic sports models, there was a good variety of classy contemporaries, including a sleek Aston Martin and a cute, ‘topless’ modern-day Mini. Their inclusion in the `grand parade’ highlighted the fact that the car runs are for any car lover with any type of interesting vehicle.
Sports and Specials is an informal group of car enthusiasts who meet for a breakfast run every month. Newcomers are always welcome. Next month the petrol heads will meet for a car run and a special St Valentine’s breakfast on Sunday February 16. The venue is still to be confirmed but anyone interested in taking part is this romantic celebration is asked to diarise the date.
